Warmth
I really really had a doubt about buying this plugin. And even though there are many videoclips in which people explain what it does, most of the time it was so subtle, I didn't hear it.
I took the risk and now I finally understand (or rather hear/feel) what's going on. The sound I have always listened to in the 70's, was all recorded on tape. And that "feel" is now also in my own music.
When switched on over a drumsampler, it somehow makes it all more enjoyable to listen to. When switched off everything sounds somewhat harsh and digital.
So in the end, I'm a happy man. Thanks UAD

Superior tape emulation
For the longest time, I've always steered clear of tape emulation plugins because I never liked how it affected the bottom end (especially with mixes which significant sub 60hz energy). Because the plugin only really has two controls (tape inch mode & input knob), UA has very cleverly chosen to provide us with basically two ways to approach it : one rather transparent, where the bottom end remains nearly untouched but where the midrange benefits from compression & highly level-dependant harmonic distortion (the 15" mode - ideal for modern hip hop mixing), the other with a much stronger behaviour (the 7.5"). Note that it will always change your sound, so you'd better mix into it from the outset.

Just amazing. Sold on UAD.
Sounds fantastic, at a better price than other tape plugins. Love my apollo twin, and my octo!

I have many tape emulators and this is my favorite
I have Slate VTM which is very, very subtle. I have j37 which is almost cartoonish but does serve a very real purpose. I love Oxide because it is realistic like slate but has a flavor like the J-37 without feeling "cartoonish". If you have UA's big brothers there's no need to get this but if you do not -- then this is a godsend. This will actually smooth up your tracks and make them just work together. I love it and it doesn't take much processing power. One of my goto plugins. Great job UA.

That's the "trick" of mixing
If you never used it, you don't know how you missed it.
That's the way mixing becomes this warm and smooth character you'll never achieved with conventionell plugins!

love it
I throw it on the mix bus for every recording. it makes everything sound "huge" and well tied together. I would recommend the Oxide to anyone.

Instant Goodness
Doing mostly acoustic work I appreciate clear sound, not saturated or compressed noticeably. Maybe that's why I never really got into the Tape-Thing until I heard Oxide-demo. I did a comparison with other VTC's, that either rhyme with 8 or something to do with atmosphere and sea, over 5 songs. I think I could, in the end, get my tracks to sound like that : opener and with a much clearer ambience. But it would take me a lot more time and several plugs. On the bus it really made a quick, one stop difference from "okay-ish" to "yeah-that's it" pulling instruments and vocals together in the stereo field. I do mostly use the 15 ips without overload on the input. Great! Thanks UAD for an affordable VTC.

A NEW KIND OF MONSTER
I've had the pleasure to work on real Studers and Otaris a few years back and I own a Tascam MS-16 1" tape machine, and both the UAD Studer and ATR plugs, so I guess I have a pretty good perspective on how tape really does sound and what plugins can do in terms of fatness and saturation.
Being a little skeptical as this new plug was released, and owning it's biggest brothers (Studer and ATR) I thought this was just a cheaper version for people not willing to spend the 350 bucks. That was until I demoed it!
Oxide is a completely different beast than its older brothers. It imparts attitude and 3Dness that I love. It's a must for all tape aficionados & saturation seekers. This is not an upgrade/downgrade from other plugs, its something else.

Oxide!!!!
I love this plugin! It really glues my mix together and removes some harshness even. I have used the Kramer tape version and it doesn't compare to my ears. Good job UAD !!!

Adds something to my low end that I like
I will certainly use this plugin regularly as the saturation type sound it adds to my low end particularly, is pleasing.

3-Times The Charm
I already have the Studer A800 and Ampex ATR-102 plugins and I use them all the time. The reason I got the Oxide Tape was because as soon as I put it on the stereo bus, the mix got clearer. Some the reviewers claim you don't need this plugin if you already have the other two. No, you don't, but they are different from one another. I recently added the Oxide Tape to a stereo drum track and it brought out the clarity I was looking for in the snare, hi-hat and cymbals. It was not like an enhancer or EQ. It added that crystalline analogue quality you find on 70s vinyl, which is exactly what I was looking for in my production.
