All-in-one unit
I don‘t know why they emulate such an all-in-one unit? There already are better vocal compressors available on UAD and do we really need more EQs? Of course you can get some decent quality from this plugin but we also can get that when using the stuff we already have. Not a must-have for me.

Finally
Back in the day i had one of these bad boys...but after it broke down and got fixed it never sounded the same again.
But finally i never have to worry again.
Fantastic modelling paired with the digital workflow is a blast!
thanks uad...

Amazing on vocals
This plugin really brings out the high crispyness in a voice in such an amazing way, adds a nice warmth as well! Not too crazy about it on guitar or bass but sounds good on drums as well.
My only issue is the overall volume is pretty low and Sometimes I don’t want to crank the pre gain that much. I notice it the most using mic to record things other then my voice a little bit farther away like percussion, claps, etc . In those examples I tend to use a different compressor and turn off the avalon compressor. To my ears the avalon compressor sounds best on drums and maybe bass (although I prefer the voxbox for that)

I know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.
Actually, I don't but what a great title for a review! The UA Avalon VT-737 is a solid addition to the growing stable of pre-amps from UA. I use the Neves quite a bit and have had interesting results with the darker Helio Type 69. The Avalon has a warm, round character that mates well with vocals and soft acoustics. A buddy of mine who plays bass has used the hardware for years in his rig so it'll be interesting to compare the two.

great job
excellent work as always UAD. Small request tho. The 737 has been used heavily in R&B and Hiphop since it came out. No offense to the engineers you used for presets, but can we see some engineer presets from those who specialize in hip hop, r&b? There are many out there and this unit would have been perfect to see how they use this box....

Masterpiece
Amazing, seriously!
Very useful in many situations... vocals, busses, mastering, etc.
I believe UAD captured the original very well.

Useless thing
The compressor is useless ... Equalizers are better on UAD ... Why is it?

Authentic
Crisp and tube-ey...just like the hardware. This is a must-buy. Thanks for listening UA!

Amazing!
The UAD Avalon 737 seems to be that missing radio ready gloss that when you put on vocals especially, you will not realize how amazing it is until you take it out! Then if you are not self deceptive, without being told you just put it back immediately. I am very impressed.

It is what it is
And that is an emulation of a hardware unit. We all know real tube saturation can't be compared to a plugin. I have an avalon and compared it with this plugin. Yes, I can clearly hear a difference between the two. One sounds like an avalon 737, one sounds like a vst. Driving the tube is where it gets a bit artificial for me, however the eq and comp aren't terrible and can be quite useful.

Very effective pre amp emulation
Have used this a couple of times now with my TLM 103 mic. The tube sound does actually come through. The sound reminded me of a tube mic I used to own. This is perhaps the best plug in mic pre I have heard alongside UAD Neve 1073. I have the complete collection of pre amps and channel strips that Unison offers now. They are the best tools for placing first in the chain on just about everything for applying some initial character and rounding off of brittle digital top ends that is my big qualm with digital music. They work great with VST synths and effects for that very reason. Remedies need to be applied to making our digital synths sound more characterful and warm. Bass seems not to be a problem, but that brittle top end is still a big issue for me with my digital studio. I would turn to tape for mastering, but that is no longer viable (an expensive indulgence). Thanks for this great pre amp, Uaudio.

Why?
Yes, the hardware unit has sold a lot, but that doesn't make it an interesting unit to have as a plugin. The only decent part of this is the EQ, but then there are a lot better EQs already for UAD.
Don't see why UA spent time emulating this instead of something interesting and unique. As if there aren't enough channel strips to choose from?

This plugin is no joke
I originally sold my Avalon 737 to get into UAD hardwre. After using this plugin in unison to track vocals I can confirm this is the real deal.
